Umrah Visa and Documents: What You Actually Need
The document list, the photo specification that gets applications rejected, vaccination requirements, and how long to allow before you fly.
The document checklist
Every Umrah application from Pakistan needs the same core set. Get these together before you book and the rest of the process is straightforward.
- Original passport, machine readable, valid for at least six months from your date of travel
- Recent colour photographs to Saudi specification (see below) β usually four to six copies
- Vaccination certificate, including meningococcal ACWY, which is mandatory
- Copy of your CNIC, and the B-Form for any child travelling
- Confirmed return tickets and hotel bookings β your package provides both
- Nikah nama or family registration certificate where a mahram relationship must be proved
The photograph specification catches people out
More Umrah applications are delayed over photographs than over anything else. The requirement is a recent colour photograph with a white background, the face taking up roughly 80% of the frame, both ears visible, and no shadow behind the head.
A passport photo taken years ago will be rejected. So will a photo where the background is off-white, or where the face is too small in the frame. Get them taken fresh at a studio that regularly does Saudi visa photos, and tell them what it is for.
Vaccination requirements
The meningococcal ACWY vaccination is mandatory for all Umrah and Hajj travellers. It must be administered at least ten days before arrival in Saudi Arabia and the certificate must be valid β most are valid for several years, so check whether your previous one still stands.
Requirements change, and seasonal additions do appear. We confirm what is current for your travel date when we prepare your file, but do not leave the vaccination to the last week; the ten-day rule is enforced.
Mahram rules
Saudi rules on women travelling for Umrah have relaxed considerably in recent years, and women can now generally perform Umrah without a mahram. In practice, most Pakistani operators β ourselves included β still ask about group arrangements for women travelling alone, because it affects room allocation and group coordination rather than eligibility.
If a mahram relationship is being relied on for any part of the application, the documentary proof needs to be there: a nikah nama for a spouse, or a family registration certificate showing the relationship.
How long it takes
Umrah visa processing typically takes several working days once a complete file is submitted, but the honest planning number is longer than that. Between collecting documents, photograph corrections, vaccination timing and the ten-day rule, four weeks before departure is comfortable and two weeks is tight.
We stop taking bookings on a departure about a week before it flies, and this is why. It is not a commercial preference β it is the point at which the visa can no longer be reliably issued.
What we handle for you
Umrah visa processing is included in every one of our package prices. You provide the passport, photographs and vaccination certificate; our Rawalpindi office prepares the file, supplies the confirmed hotel and flight documentation the application requires, and submits it.
One thing worth knowing: cases that have to be sent to the embassy separately carry an additional charge, which is stated in our terms. This is unusual but it does happen, most often where there is a previous overstay or a name discrepancy between documents.
Questions we get asked
How long is an Umrah visa valid?
Umrah visas are issued for a defined period and tied to your travel dates. Overstaying carries a fine of SAR 25,000, which is the traveller's own responsibility β it is stated on every one of our rate sheets for that reason.
Can I do Umrah on a tourist visa?
Saudi Arabia does permit Umrah on some visit visa categories, and rules have changed repeatedly in recent years. Our packages use the dedicated Umrah visa, which is what we advise and what the price includes.
What if my passport expires soon?
Renew it first. Six months' validity from your travel date is the minimum, and a passport with less will not be accepted. Renewal in Pakistan can itself take weeks, so check this before you book anything.
Do children need their own documents?
Yes. Every traveller including infants needs a passport and photographs, and children need a B-Form. Child and infant package rates differ from adult rates, so tell us the ages when you inquire.
