Classic Italy — Rome, Florence & Venice in 8 Days

The Colosseum, the Duomo and the Grand Canal on one high-speed rail route

United Kingdom → Italy8 days, 7 nights220 travellersEasy4.9 (318 reviews)

About this trip

Eight days through Italy's three greatest cities with direct flights from the UK, Frecciarossa high-speed trains between them, skip-the-line entry to the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums and the Uffizi, and a gondola ride in Venice.

Italy rewards travellers who slow down, and this tour gives each city the time it deserves — three nights in Rome, two in Florence, two in Venice. You fly direct from the UK into Rome Fiumicino and home from Venice Marco Polo, so no day is wasted backtracking. Between cities you take Frecciarossa trains at 300 km/h, city centre to city centre. Every major site is pre-booked with reserved entry times, which in high season saves three to four hours of queueing per city. Guides are licensed art historians, and there is deliberate free time built into every afternoon for the coffee, gelato and wandering that make Italy what it is.

Visas and practical information

Visa requirements

British passport holders need ETIAS authorisation from 2026 (€20, valid 3 years). Non-EU passport holders resident in the UK require an Italian Schengen visa; our visa desk prepares the application, books the VFS Global appointment and provides all hotel and flight confirmations.

Allow around 18 days for processing — book with that in mind.

What to pack

  • Shoulders and knees must be covered for the Vatican and St Mark's Basilica
  • Comfortable shoes with grip — Venetian bridges are slippery when wet
  • A refillable water bottle: Rome's street fountains are free and drinkable
  • Sunhat and SPF 50 for June to August
  • A small crossbody bag rather than a backpack for crowded sites

Frequently asked questions

Is the Colosseum arena floor included?

Yes — our Colosseum ticket includes arena-floor access, which is a separately ticketed upgrade on most tours and often sold out weeks in advance.

What is the dress code for the Vatican?

Shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. A light scarf works well in summer. Visitors who arrive uncovered are turned away at security.

Can we add Umrah or a Turkey extension?

Yes. Many of our clients add three nights in Istanbul on the way home, or continue to Jeddah for Umrah. Ask the team for a combined quote when you inquire.

Is the gondola ride private?

The included ride is shared, six people per gondola. A private gondola with a serenading gondolier can be added for £110 per boat.

How heavy is the walking?

Around 9,000 steps a day, mostly on cobbles and, in Venice, over stepped bridges. The tour is graded easy but is not suitable for travellers who cannot manage stairs without assistance — ask us about our accessible Italy itinerary instead.
