About this trip

Seven days on the Karakoram Highway from Islamabad to the Chinese border — Lake Saif-ul-Malook, Babusar Top, Attabad Lake, Baltit and Altit forts, the Passu Cones, Eagle's Nest sunset and Khunjerab Pass at 4,693 m. Group and private departures every week.

This is the classic northern trip and the one most Pakistani travellers do first. Seven days is enough to see Hunza properly without rushing: two full days in Karimabad, a day up to Khunjerab, and the Kaghan valley on the way in. We run it as both a shared group tour, which keeps the cost down, and as a private family tour with your own Land Cruiser. Transport is a comfortable Grand Cabin or Hiace on the highway sections and 4x4 Land Cruisers where the roads demand it. Hotels are booked ahead in peak season, which matters — Karimabad sells out completely in July and August. All departures are escorted by a tour lead who knows the road, the weather and which chai stop is actually worth the pause.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tour good for families with children?

Yes, and around a third of our travellers come as families. The driving days are long, so bring entertainment for younger children. Children under 12 pay 60% of the adult fare on a shared bed.

Are group and private departures different itineraries?

The route is the same. On the group tour you share a coach and Land Cruiser with other travellers and stay on triple sharing; on the private tour your family has its own vehicle, twin rooms and flexible timings.

What if the roads are blocked by landslides?

It happens, usually for a few hours. Our tour leads carry live road information from Gilgit-Baltistan authorities and reroute or reschedule as needed. Any extra hotel night caused by a closure is charged at cost.

Is Khunjerab open all season?

Khunjerab is normally open to visitors from around 1 April to 30 November, but the pass can close at short notice after snowfall. If the pass is shut on your date, we substitute Sost, Passu and the Batura glacier viewpoint.

Can I join from Lahore or Karachi?

Yes. We book your domestic flight or Daewoo coach to Islamabad and meet you at the airport or terminal. Add roughly PKR 18,000–35,000 return depending on city and date.

What kind of food is served?

Breakfast and dinner are included and are standard Pakistani menus — daal, sabzi, chicken or mutton curry, roti and rice, with local Hunza dishes on two nights. Vegetarian options are always available.
